book 'painter's refuge: a way of life'

Description

'Painter's Refuge: A Way of Life' catalogues the works from Reginald Sylvester II's first solo museum exhibition in America, at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture, in Charlotte, Nord Carolina, Sylvester's hometown. The publication presents installation views of the exhibition alongside interviews with the artist by Marshall N. Price and Franklin Sirmans, and an essay by Rachel Waldrop. The deconstructed volume, somewhere between artist's book and catalogue, with Swiss binding and a die-cut cover revealing silver inner pages, echoes the cut canvases and exposed frames of Sylvester's most recent series of paintings.
